ESCo was launched in 2015 by James Porteous, becoming the first distillery in Leith for four decades. Initially operating in a tiny space in the old James Dunbar lemonade factory, the company now shares a distillery with Lind & Lime Gin on Coburg Street. Achroous, the company’s core gin, has received gold and double gold medals from the IWSC, Spirits Business and San Francisco Spirits Awards, and is available across the UK and in several international markets. ABOUT THE JOB
Simply put, this role will be focused on selling spirits. You’ll be working to grow the number of bars, restaurants and retailers stocking Electric Spirit Company products, and you’ll be the day-to-day contact for all of our trade customers. Initially, this job will focus on our gin, Achroous, but other products will be added to the portfolio in the future. Your direct report will be the business owner, James Porteous, although you’ll spend the majority of your time in trade, working remotely. Your responsibilities will lie across the following areas:
Client Relationships
- Building and maintaining relationships with new customers in the on- and off-trade, in order to drive new sales
- Maintaining existing relationships to ensure current stockists are happy and enthusiastic about ESCo
- Working with representatives of key distribution partners to help them to sell our spirits
- Identifying and developing opportunities to increase sales with current stockists
- Answering queries from trade customers and pro-actively solving any problems
Strategy
- Working with the business owner to create a strategic sales plan
- Identifying key markets in the UK and the key customers within them
- Identifying new routes to market to pursue and develop listings with
- Using the sales plan and market knowledge to develop a sales hit-list, tracking potential sales opportunities
- Updating this hit-list on a weekly basis to track progress and aid new business development
- Presenting a monthly sales report, detailing new customers, listings and general sales progress
- Identifying marketing investment opportunities to increase sales and visibility in key markets
- Reporting back on industry trends, customer opinion and other insight to aid new product development
Brand Promotion
- Conducting in-store tastings with key customers
- Conducting staff training for on- and off-trade customers
- Attending trade fairs and similar events to promote the brand and our produce
- Helping to develop concepts for promotional events, including drink creation
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
All applicants must have the legal right to live and work in the UK, as we cannot sponsor visas in relation to this role. The position is based in Scotland, in either Edinburgh or Glasgow, and the ideal employee will have most of the following skills and attributes:
- Loves spirits and the drinks industry- Is hard-working, motivated and tenacious
- Is enthusiastic, friendly and confident when speaking to new people
- Has an extensive network of professional relationships within the retail, drinks and hospitality industries
- Has strong knowledge of the UK drinks trade, including on- and off-trade operators, wholesalers and distributors
- Has existing experience working in the drinks production or hospitality industries
- Has existing experience working in a sales role, ideally within the drinks trade
- Is happy working remotely while managing their time and company budgets appropriately
WHAT WE WILL OFFER YOU
The job has a base salary of £30,000 per annum, based on a four day working week. Some evening and weekend work will be required, and you will need to travel around the UK (and possibly internationally) for work. We will also offer you the following:
